Zebrafish present an outstanding model organism for inquiry-based classroom projects. I use these materials as a "textbook" for an inquiry-based class in life science for prospective teachers.Technical Remarks: Maintaining the zebrafish populations in good health is crucial. We use an Isoplex Bench-Top unit with four 9-L tanks, nine 2.75-L tanks, and four 1.0-L tanks designed to be ideal for use in classrooms and small laboratories. Aquatic Habitats, the vendor, reports that each 9.0-L tank can hold up to 70 fish (4 tanks x 70 fish/tank = 280 fish), the 2.75-L tanks hold up to 30 fish (9 tanks x 30 fish/tank = 270 fish) and the 1.0-L tank holds one or two fish in isolation (4 tanks x 2 fish/tank = 8 fish), for a total capacity of 558 adult fish. For assistance, contact Aquatic Habitats DivisionAquatic Eco-Systems, Inc. 1767 Benbow Ct.
