What motivates people to perform the day to day tasks at their jobs? Is it just for the money or is it the enjoyment for the positive outcome the customer receives. Task significance is very important. Having employees that enjoy their work motivates them to work harder which increases their job performance. There are jobs that are very rewarding to the individual working them, such as firefighters, nurses, etc. but as mentioned in the podcast, other industries like auto workers do not get a chance to see the enjoyment of the owner who purchased the vehicle they just built. Managers of companies should try to motivate their employees to see the significance of their job by providing them an outlet to communicate with the customers that receive the service they purchased. Like in the studies in the podcast, companies provided stories that showed positive impact other professionals had with their customers and maybe even a forum so the employees can discuss what they enjoy about their job. Companies that have employees that are happy will have a positive working environment.
