The Podcast on "Task Significance" by Mark Adam was great, and helped me understand why in the past I haven't been motivated on the job. What happens is people often fall into routine of performance a task to the point where is become automatic and doesn't require much effort or thought. When managers get creative and focus more on finding out what motivates employees, instead of just focusing on production or maximizing profits. Taking that extra step and implementing simple techniques, such as helping employees discover how they impact others. This is gratifying, plus is helps people feel appreciated by the customers, as well as management. It was incredible to learn about the effect of several experiments completed which proved that job performance improved once employees were able to read inspiring stories, and meet people face to face whom their work helped. The task management had a great effect on simple small companies such as life guards, as well as large high tech corporations like Microsoft. Also there was a better connection between management, employees, and customers which made a much happier work enviornment.
