STAIR Project – Career PathwaysSTAIR is an acrynom for Stand Along Instructional Resource. This is a resource for teachers to teach students a specific lesson completely on their one, or independently. This STAIR include information about the subject, practice questions, feedback on correct or incorrect answers, and opportunities for review.I am not an educator, however, I facilitate Career Development workshops whenever the opportunity arrises, so my hope was to create a plan that I could use when asked to do a workshop for Middle School students, 6-8th Grade, who are already familiar with how to use a computer and are familiar with internet safety. This lesson will incorporate doing research, integrating computer skills, language arts, and creativity in order to create an awareness of Career Pathways and how Career Development practices can help the students to create a plan to help them reach their career goals. Please click here to view my STAIR project on Career Pathways.

I have created a Stand-alone Instructional Resource or StAIR for my second grade class. This StAIR will help students learn and practice identifying syllables in a Haiku poem. The StAIR is supportive for our poetry unit that is covered in second grade. Students have learned how to clap/tap or snap out syllables in first grade and the StAIR will give them the opportunity to extend that knowledge.

Earth's Changes StAIR

A few weeks ago, I had to create a StAIR, or Stand Alone Instructional Resource, for a graduate class I am taking through Michigan State University. At the time, my students were learning about the natural ways that the Earth changes. I thought that this would be a great topic on which to focus my StAIR project. This is intended for use with my third graders, so it is not as interactive as some of the other projects, although it does have several questions for the students to answer throughout the StAIR. I also narrate throughout the presentation, making it easier for my students to get the most out of this resource and to keep them engaged in the material. I would ideally use this as a means of remediation for a student that was absent or struggled with mastering the concept.
