They take an online quiz from a French-language environmental website named Agir 21. Each time the students answer a question correctly, they gain a point and one brick for their pyramid. If they miss two consecutive questions, they lose the game. If they get through the test, they get to see the percentage of questions they needed to complete their pyramid. The pair that constructs their pyramid with the fewest number of questions wins the game. By taking the test, students enlarge their French vocabulary on the topic of sustainable development. This lesson plan is part of the SERC Pedagogic Collection. It contains lesson plans on science topics in a variety of disciplines, including World Languages. http://www.merlot.org/merlot/viewMaterial.htm?id=486116 In this Interactive Lecture Demonstration, students will see videos on the French-language Alerte Terre! website. They will predict the main issues that might be included in the short videos treating topics such as endangered species, organic farming, the effect of aerosols on the environment, pollution and sustainable development. They will then view the videos and reflect on how their predictions were accurate or different than what they saw in the video. Students will subsequently produce a written summary of their learning experience and recount the evolution of their thought process on the topic.This activity has been developed through MERLOT as part of its collaboration with the SERC Pedagogic Service. http://www.merlot.org/merlot/viewMaterial.htm?id=486086 In this online game, students investigate the impact of their consumption of natural resources on the environment. At the same time, they learn the French vocabulary for discussions on ecology and sustainable development. They also develop their awareness of the importance of environmental protection in cultures outside our borders.
