This free and open online course inEngineering Physics was produced by the WA State Board for Community & Technical Colleges [http://sbctc.edu/].This course covers the major topics of mechanics including momentum and energy conservation, kinematics, Newton's laws and equilibrium. The major emphasis is to develop critical analysis, problem solving and scientific reasoning skilss by considering numerous different systems and ininteractions, solving problems and discussion. We will use a systematic approach based on modeling systems by application of basic physics principles, making assumptions, utilizing multiple representastions in order to become proficient at problem solving. This module is part of the Open Course Library, a collection of shareable course materials created for faculty to use in their classes. As part of the Open Course Library this content is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution License which means that you are free to reuse the course in its entirety, edit it and use a your own modified version, or pick out only pieces which can be incorporated into your own course, as long as you credit the original author for their work.To access all materials for this course you may download either the ANGEL export file or the IMS Common Cartridge file.

Advanced semiconductor devices as a new source of energy for the 21st century, which deliver electricity directly from sunlight. The suitable semiconductor materials, device physics, and fabrication technologies for solar cells are presented. The guidelines for design of a complete solar cell system for household application are explained. The cost aspects, market development, and the application areas of solar cells are presented. Study Goals: Students learn about renewable energy sources, namely the direct conversion of (solar) radiation into electricity using solar cells. Students understand the principles of the photovoltaic conversion and learn about the advantages and limitations of different solar cell technologies, such as crystalline silicon solar cell technology and thin film solar cell technologies. Students understand the specifications of solar modules and know how to design a complete solar system for a particular application..

Fluid Mechanics

This course introduces fluid mechanics, the study of how and why fluids (both gaseous and liquid) behave the way they do. This course focuses on applications to two specialized situations: flow in pipes and flow around submerged objects (wings for example). In particular, the student will learn to calculate pressure drops in piping systems and forces around submerged objects when exposed to flow. The course concludes with a brief introduction to the complexities of compressible flow, as opposed to flow in which the fluid density is constant. This free course may be completed online at any time. See course site for detailed overview and learning outcomes. (Mechanical Engineering 201)

Have you ever wondered if Superman could really fly? What was Spiderman's spidey sense? How did Wonder Woman's invisible jet work? What does it really mean for something to be a scientific "fact״? Explore how science works and what constitutes "good" science through case studies drawn from a wide spectrum of people's experience, for example superheros, movies, and real world issues such as global warming. The case studies will provide the chance to act as science critics as the students develop a better appreciation for science and the scientific method.

This online course comes from the Open Learning Initiative (OLI) by Carnegie Mellon. “The course includes self-guiding materials and activities, and is ideal for independent learners, or instructors trying out this course package.”״The current online Andes Physics course is intended to be used with most physics textbooks. It supplements the textbook by providing problems for students to solve with the aid of Andes, an intelligent tutoring system developed at the University of Pittsburgh and the United States Naval Academy with funding from the Cognitive Science program of the Office of Naval Research. Students solve typical textbook problems just as they would with pencil and paper, by entering vectors, coordinate systems, equations, variable definitions, etc. Students are free to make as many entries as they want in order to solve a problem. After they make each entry, they receive immediate feedback on its correctness. They can also ask why an entry (e.g., an equation) is wrong, and they can request hints on what to do next in order to solve the problem. Their score on a problem can be based mostly on the entries made while deriving the answer, and not just on the answer itself.״
