VITAL INFORMATIO
Subject(s):
Science
Topic or Unit of Study:
The Metric System
Grade/Level:
7
Objective:
Students are introduced to the metric system through a lecture and an activity.
Summary:
Students are given a lecture on the metric system, they are expected to take notes. They are then given a work sheet that will further help them learn the metric system.
IMPLEMENTATION
Learning Context:
Students have been learning about the scientific method and experimentation. Understanding the metric system will help perform experiments that require measurement.
Procedure:
At the beginning of the class students will be given a lecture on the metric system. This lecture will include why they are learning about the metric system, the different functions of the metric system, how to use the metric system, and how to convert within the metric system. The students will then be given a worksheet that contains "The Metric Ladder" activity. This will be done as homework.

STANDARDS & ASSESSMENT
Standards:
CA- California K-12 Academic Content Standards
Subject : Science
Grade : Grade Seven
Area : Investigation and Experimentation
Sub-Strand 7: Scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting careful investigations. As a basis for understanding this concept and addressing the content in the other three strands, students should develop their own questions and perform investigations. Students will:
Standard a.: Select and use appropriate tools and technology (including calculators, computers, balances, spring scales, microscopes, and binoculars) to perform tests, collect data, and display data. |
