Title: A Portfolio Assessment Toolkit
Description: "Portfolio assessment is the systematic, longitudinal collection of student work created in response to specific, known instructional objectives and evaluated in relation to the same criteria. Assessment is done by measuring the individual works as well as the portfolio as a whole against specified criteria, which match the objectives toward a specific purpose. Portfolio creation is the responsibility of the learner, with teacher guidance and support, and often with the involvement of peers..." Source: Portfolio Assessment in the Foreign Language Classroom, section 2.1 retrieved from: This assignment, aimed at active and pre-service Foreign Language teachers, consists of the making of a toolkit of useful assessment forms, customized to local use and consistent with the National Foreign Language Standards, to be used in portfolio assessment
Type of Task: Core Activity, Individual, Supervised
Time Required Several weeks to a semester
Topics: Authentic Assessment; Formative Assessment; Summative Assessment; Portfolio Assessment; Rubrics;Self-Efficacy Survey
Course: Foreign Language Methods
Audience: College General Ed, Grade School, High School, Middle School

Text of Learning Exercise: 1. Read through all the Portfolio Assessment modules on the website to get a feel for how this assessment type works.

2. After reading through section 3, take the Teacher Self-Efficacy Questionnaire and rate your own readiness for portfolio assessment. (IF your instructor has provided a discussion board on this questionnaire, you can post there now.)

3. When you've done your reading, go up to the home page navigation bar and click on forms. Scroll down to Part 7 and make a few selected worksheets as part of your toolkit.

4.Scroll down to Part 8 and make a few rubrics for students and peers.

5. Write a reflection on how you will use the tools you create working with this module.(IF your instructor has provided a discussion board on this reflection, you can post there now.)
