Text of Learning Exercise: Language arts lesson with online science resources Grade level 9 or 10 English standards: 2.4 Synthesize the content from several sources or works by a single author dealing with a single issue; paraphrase the ideas and connect them to other sources and related topics to demonstrate comprehension ISTE /NETS standard 3. Research and Information Fluency Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Students: a. plan strategies to guide inquiry. b. locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media. c. evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific tasks. d. process data and report results. Assignments: 1. Read the article below on media spin on global warming http://www.globalissues.org/EnvIssues/GlobalWarming/media.asp 2. Students must respond to series of reading comp questions and post findings to class wiki. Questions include the following. Compare and contrast the views of three different groups mentioned in this article. Discuss what you learned that you did not know about global warming before you read this article. Determine what else you could ask.
Assessment: Answer questions and submit on class wiki.
