This is the original assignment designed for middle school age students. Feel free to adapt to your own student needs: Plan a Vacation around the World Using the technologies we have been learning about in social studies class, you will work with a group of 4 people (you can choose your groups!) to plan a trip to any destination in the world! You will use the steps below to help you create your final product: A PowerPoint or Windows MovieMaker video. Your group should plan your trip anywhere in the world following these guidelines: • Your Budget is $5,000 per person. Keep track of your individual budget (Be creative!). (This includes ALL costs, flights, hotel, rental car, tickets to attractions, things you might want to buy, and remember your food!) • You should plan to visit at least 10 places of interest and / or historical interest. (For example: If you travel to Rome, you may want to visit: The Coliseum, The Vatican, the Roman Forum, etc. You will use the following Web 2.0 Applications to help you plan your trip: You can use this interactive site to read about places you might be interested in visiting on your trip. Here you can read about the most visited sites in an area, and even receive travel guidance in where to stay. • For this aspect of your project you need to gather and print a positive review of a hotel / or hostel for which you will spend a night during your trip, as well as three different review for three places you will visit on your trip. / Next, you will use one or both of these travel planning sites to: • Find a flight / cruise /or rent a car • Find hotels / motels / hostels / place to stay • Make sure you stay within your per person budget and DO NOT book any real trips! (If you need a credit card, you’ve gone too far) • Be sure to print the last page before booking that shows your final price with air, hotel, car, cruise, etc. Google Earth: We have used Google Earth many times in class, now it is your turn to use it for a real purpose! • Use Google Earth to locate the region or city you are traveling to (pick one city you may visit). • Once you find a city map, use the CTRL and Printscreen keys to take a picture of the map on your screen. (If you need help with this step, let me know) • Then you will insert the image into a slide on your PowerPoint, or MovieMaker video. • Last, you will add small colored autoshapes to “pinpoint” locations on your aerial city image and map out the places you are visiting within your city. and Using both of these sites, you will create a slideshow to showcase the 10 or more point so historical interest that you plan to visit. Follow these steps to make your slideshow: • First, create a folder on your desktop to store the images you will find. • Now, using our class site, use the Internet search feature and other resources found there to locate and save 15-20 images to your desktop folder. • Once, you sign into Photobucket, you can upload your images to create a slideshow. You can select any background! (Be creative!) Once you are done creating your slideshow, save it, and you will paste it onto our class Wetpaint page. We will do this step as a class, so don’t worry if it seems confusing! • Insert Photobucket slideshow to our class Wetpaint wiki. Final Product PowerPoint or MovieMaker: Using either PowerPoint or Windows Movie Maker, create a show about the trip you have planned. Be creative and have fun creating this! The following must be in your show: • Tell us how your budget was spent • List and describe the 10 or more places of historical interest you visited • Show your Google Earth pinpoint map • Show us your Photobucket slideshow

Students will need to become familiar with some of the Web 2.0 apps before expected to use them for this project. It may be helpful to do this activity step by step, so that no one falls behind.
