Religious Visitation Requirement.
Objectives of the course:
To undertake a critical examination of comparative religions as a means toward ultimate transformation. To introduce to the student the diverse character, experiences, and dynamics of religious life found through the world.
To understand the historical and philosophical growth and development of the major religions.
These objectives may be met by the religious visitation requirement where the student will have an opportunity to see a religion/belief,other than his/her own, enacted through ritual. It is the responsibility of the student to select a religious tradition, read about that tradition,
and visit a place of that religious tradition where members of that religious tradition gather as a body for rituals.
The student will present a 5-8 page paper on the visitation. The paper will be typed, double-spaced, using the MLA format. The following information is required material for the paper: Field Information Give the full name, exact location and Religious affiliation. Preliminary placing information: Describe the exterior and interior surroundings as well as the sort of people in the group. Description of activity or symbolism: Describe the ritual as well as the emotional tone of that ritual. Analysis: Analyze the topic in terms of the three forms of religious expression: Theoretical (teaching), Practical (worship), Sociological. At least one third of the paper should deal with the analysis.
An "A" paper will be written using the proper format, mindful of grammar and syntax, while addressing in a clear and concise way the required Material
