Humans, Gorillas and Baboons~ Are they the same or different?
Topic: Humans, Gorillas and Baboons; Same or Different?
Objectives: Students will become more familiar with the location, properties and function of the human skeleton while at the same time, comparing basic anatomical characteristics with those of our closest relatives.
Process: 1) Go to the site www.eskeletons.org and choose the link titled Comparative Anatomy. This link allows you to choose which two organisms you would like to compare. 2) Compare and contrast the following bones of the human, gorilla and baboon. a. Humerus b. Radius c. Ulna d. Femur e. Tibia f. Fibula g. Skull h. Carpals i. Metacarpals 3) Open a Word document and cut and paste pictures of the indicated bones into this file. Beside each comparison, type a short summary outlining the similarities and differences of each pair. Work in partners to complete this assignment. Conclusion: Enjoy this break from studying lab models and pictures in your books. This assignment will allow you the opportunity to realize how similar these three organisms really are.
Due: We will take three days of class time to complete this assignment which will be due on the third day at the end of class.
Evaluation: Accuracy 10 Organization 10 Promptness 5 Creativeness 5 30
