| Prerequisites Skills: |
Internet skills, microscope skills |
| Learning Objectives: |
SWBAT distinguish between the different phases of mitosis. SWBAT locate the different phases on their own slide. |
| Technical Notes: |
Each student or each pair of students will need a computer and a microscope. |
| Text of Learning Exercise: |
The students will be asked to go to http://www.biology.arizona.edu/cell_bio/tutorials/cell_cycle/cells3.html and look over the tutorial and study the different pictures of mitosis. The students will then do a lab where they will be looking at slides of onion tips. The objective is for each student to find each phase of mitosis on the slide. After they find a phase, you look to verify it and then check off that they have found a phase. After the student has located each phase of mitosis, they have completed the lab. After completion, they can go back to the website and browse through it and do any other activities dealing with the cell cycle and cell division. It will usually take the students the rest of the class period to find the phases on their own though.
