Title: Virtual Microscope Discovery
Description: The 7 minute instruction video must be viewed using headphones by each student. They must then complete the simulation and then at least 3 of the pre-arranged challenges that the website provides. That will help them trouble-shoot in case they encounter problems with their own laboratory work.
Type of Task: Individual, Student-centered, Supplemental activity, Unsupervised
Time Required 30-50 minutes as needed
Topics: Laboratory work, biology, cellular structure
Course: Biology
Audience: High School, Middle School
Categories:
Prerequisites Skills: Basic computer skills
Learning Objectives: Students will be able to recall how to properly handle and use a microscope by completing an online simulation where they will examine different specimens.
Technical Notes: This activity would be ideal to freshmen or sophomore who must use a microscope in a future activity. The virtual microscope will reacquaint them with proper use of a microscope without the mess in the lab.
