Grade Level: Second Grade
Objectives: 1. Students will record data with drawings and phrases. 2. Students
will respond to questions. 3. Students will develop vocabulary and concepts of
unknown text. 4. Students will build an edible spacecraft.
CDE Language Arts: Reading 1.0: Word Analysis: Vocabulary and Concept
Development:?1.8 Use knowledge of individual words in unknown compound words to
predict their meaning.?1.10 Identify simple multiple-meaning words.
CDE Science: Investigation and Experimentation 4g: Follow oral instructions for
a scientific investigation.
CDE-ELL Literacy Component: Reading (Word Analysis and Fluency): Recognize and
produce English phonemes that are like phonemes students hear and produce in
their primary language. Recognize and produce English phonemes that are not like
phonemes students hear and produce in their primary language. Produce most
English phonemes while beginning to read aloud. Produce simple vocabulary (e.g.,
single words or very short phrases) to communicate basic needs in social and
academic settings (e.g., locations, greetings, classroom objects). Demonstrate
comprehension of simple vocabulary with an appropriate action. Retell stories
using simple words, phrases, and sentences.

to support their understanding. 2. Allow for one-on-one instruction as well as
group collaboration. 3. Model good English and habits. 4.
Teacher/Students/Parents will need to supply ingredients. 5. Teacher must model
fluent reading of the text. 6. Practice own and student ORAL delivery of
content. 7. Parent helpers would be nice! 8. Eat when finished.
