Description: This site shows various galaxies, classifying them by shape and showing examples, obtained from Hubble.

(galaxies are many different shapes)
Course: 8th Grade Physical Science
Audience: College General Ed, High School, Middle School
Prerequisites Skills: Reading skills (ELD III or higher), basic computer skills
Learning Objectives: Students will be able to recognize various types of galaxies and sort by shape.
Technical Notes: Computer must have the capability to show the illustrations.
Can also be a SMART board activity, where students can "pick up and place" various galaxies in the correct titled columns.
Text of Learning Exercise: 1. Access the web site and familiarize yourself with the various types and
shapes of galaxies.
2. Take the examples of various galaxies you are given and sort them into the
types shown.
