Comment:

This is a survey course in Western Civilization from 1700s up to 2000 providing an overview of the rise of eastern and western Europe, the Enlightenment, period of Revolutions, the industrial revolution, WWI and WWII through the end of the cold war. Each topic includes learning objects, exercises. The audio text discusses different topics than the written text on the screen for each lesson. This can be used fulfill a general education requirement or survey course.

There is no mention of the United States except in the final summary. The topic is covered unevenly.

Note: There is no mention of events occurring after 2000, including the election of President Obama, 9/11, or the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Technical Remarks:

The software and browsers listed are earlier versions than in uses in Oct 2012, so students with old computers can use this program.

Ease of use is simple and fairly accessible, however the oral materials are different from the visual materials. The oral text is in a drop down menu, which I believe is not accessible. Maps in the visual section do not always correspond with the oral materials.
