Comment: I thought this resource was a great way to teach and practice fractions because of the use of feedback and hints as needed throughout the instruction and practice of this strategy. The visuals provide the connection between the visual and abstract allowing multiple modalities of learning. The feedback worked well as it could due to its limitations of programming. Because it cannot communicate directly with the user, it cannot provide customized feedback to what the student is doing/did and where they need to go to next. The feedback is general such as “too large” or “incorrect.” I feel struggling learners might need more specific feedback. I do think the explain button is a great feature for students to use as hints as to performing the strategy. I used it personally as to remind myself what the strategy was asking me to do during this particular step. I can see this being useful for students that forget or need a quick reminder.
