Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education

Comment: These standards were adopted in 2000 by the Association of College and Research Libraries. They are tried and true, widely used and well known. The standards even influenced accrediting agencies. The standards defined information literacy and provided a framework for what should be taught. Now, in 2014, a new information literacy framework has been proposed. The new framework will update the standards and address new paradigms in teaching and learning. It is expected that the new framework will be adopted and that these standards will be sunsetted.
