Material:

Phono, Phonétique du français québécois

Rating: 5 stars
Used in Course: Not used in course
Submitted by: Danielle Trudeau (Faculty), Feb 12, 2002
Comment: I use Phono in a Phonology course in which the students learn phonetic transcription and how to describe pronunciation and variation among French-speaking peoples. The students are assigned 5-6 phonetic phenomena to listen to each week. Phono offers the possibility to compare single sounds as they are pronunced in standard and quebecois French.
I would recommend using Phono in class first, before assigning it as homework. It should also be introduced in the course after the students have received a good training in phonetic transcription and description.

Technical Remarks:

The website requires using SIL fonts but these will work best with Explorer on PC and Mac. Some fonts do not appear correctly with Mac running Netscape.
