Comment: Otoscopic examination - it is now recommended that the otoscope be held like a pen so the side of the hand can be used to as a support against the head to prevent injury with movement.

Sensory assessment of the face indicates a pin is used to assess sharp sensation. Use of a pin is discouraged because of the potential for injury. Rather than a pin, use a broken applicator so the cotton end is splayed for soft and the broken end is then used for sharp.

We also noted that the general assessment lacks a holistic perspective of assessing the mind and the spirit which are integral with any assessment of the body.
