These are a collection of articles on Leadership/Executive Coaching from various sources – Business Journals
Type of Material:
Collection
Recommended Uses:
Recommended uses include research, in class homework, individual/group activities, and supporting lecture with resources. These articles could also be used in training workshops for current business professionals.
Technical Requirements:
• Internet Explorer (IE) version 8, Firefox (version 11). These were both used to access the material (the material website supports these browsers as well as Google Chrome).
• Adobe Reader/Flash (needed to additional in-text links leading to other forms/formats of media)
Identify Major Learning Goals:
• Students will learn information about leadership outside the textbook
• Students will explore other topics through links
No prerequisite knowledge or skills are identified; however, it would be helpful for students/users to have a foundational understanding/knowledge or business/leadership.
Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
• The collection of articles contains clear, concise, relatable information based on past and current events and the sub-topics integrate the concepts well by including a variety of resources and links to additional information and/or services related to leadership, coaching, delegating, and diversity.
• The resources and case studies contained within the content further support and explain processes and procedures related to leadership and coaching, team development, and Business planning and strategy.
• Articles are clearly written
• Provides accurate informati
Concerns:
• The only concern I have (and it is more a recommendation) is to use articles that have authors and dates whenever possible. If students were to come across these resources and elect to use them in their literature review or for research purposes, it makes it less credible when there is no author, date, or other reference material to associate the article and writer. Examples: “Be Careful of What you Say… “and “Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail” (located in the Business Planning and Strategy tab) (This is duplicated in the next section as well)
• Topics may not be discussed in the class
• Currency of articles is unknown
• Could provide more articles
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
• The purpose of the material is to provide resources (articles, journals, case studies related to business/leadership) to students and business/leadership professionals and to provide coaching services for professional development. The collection of articles reviewed uses examples to support the suggestions/theories of leadership
• The articles are assembled in a manner that builds upon prior concepts and these articles are presented in a format that users/readers can see clear relationships between the materials and event/situations used to support the content.
• The material does facilitate learning and learners will be able to identify the learning goals for leadership and coaching.
Concerns:
• No learning objectives
• No instructions for use
• No organization of how they are related
• Should use articles that have authors and dates whenever possible. If students were to come across these resources and elect to use them in their literature review or for research purposes, it makes it less credible when there is no author, date, or other reference material to associate the article and writer. Examples: “Be Careful of What you Say… “and “Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail” (located in the Business Planning and Strategy tab)
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
• Very easy to use and easy to navigate.
• The initial concept is introduced and then the related articles to specific situations and examples are compiled in an organized manner making it easy to follow.
• Tabs are easy and the information that one expects to be located within that area is actually located in that area, in other words, the user does not have to constantly link to other “areas” to obtain the information they are looking for
• Visually appealing
Concerns:
• Other than links, not interactive
• Several of the linked articles are not active
Other Issues and Comments:
Overall, I was impressed with the ease of the design and ability to move from one article to the next. I found the collection of articles to be, overall, of high quality and to be very usable, relatable, and beneficial for students as well as business professionals.
