Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
Method of Action does a good job of demonstrating the kinisthetic process of graphic design through engaging and interactive games. The lessons are excellent for those that are not classically in this design field, but would like to improve their design chops.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
Each game covers a critical concept within graphic design, turning what might be offered as a static didactic into a highly interactive and engaging learning experience. The games grow more and more complicated as one progresses through the levels, and can be replayed to measure improvement over time. We suggest using tutorials prior to doing practice sessions to learn aspects of the tool.
Concerns:
The games are limited in nature and would be improved by links to lessons that contextualize why the skills being tested are important to learn. These games, in their current form, would have to be paired with other materials to make them fully-functional lessons on the topics.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The games require very little instruction for users to get started, and they feature similar clicking patterns and mouse moves to those required when designing professionally within design and vector software. The tool provides color to indicate progress through the practice screens.
Other Issues and Comments:
Can be very engaging way to practice vector design elements.
