Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
There are very specific “do not” items listed for clarity.
The goal of getting hired is clearly explained in the PPT presentation and in the narrative.
Fundamental elements of resume writing and interviewing skills are covered taking into consideration a broad base target audience from diverse disciplines.
Thus, the learning experience is enriched with a variety of examples and tips through workshop- based approach.
Concerns:
The presenter appears to assume that everybody knows what research is required for hiring. Those looking for first jobs, may not know what they should research.
Some examples of questions to ask the interviewer would be helpful especially for those who are new to interviewing.
On the information discussing what to do after the interview, the font on the PowerPoint pages so small it can be difficult to read.
Specific profession or discipline-oriented resume and interviewing skills are lacking depth and appropriate examples.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
It is very easy to use, the narrative combined with the PowerPoint enhances comprehension.
There is a specific list provided demonstrating the appropriate demeanor necessary for a positive interview, and additional tips from the narrative.
Easy to access via link connecting to Youtube and no preconditions are given.
Concerns:
Because it is a YouTube video, there is limited opportunity for engagement and no opportunity for interaction.
The PowerPoint is perfectly acceptable for a presentation but it is very basic - without pictures or animations.
Because some of the additional tips are not provided on the PowerPoint, the listener needs to pay attention to the narrative so additional information is not missed.
