Peer Review

• The object supports learners' written communication, problem-solving skills, critical thinking, ability to take a specific position (perspective, thesis/ hypothesis), collaborate, judge sources, and question viewpoints of peers.
• Instructors can use a background information box to add clarifying ideas, terms, or information to the discussion, especially if they anticipate concepts that may confuse students.

The website is oriented to engage users in class discussion, debates, and reviewing material.  Teachers should be very thoughtful in what the objective of the activity will be. Students just need clear guidance on how the activity is expected to be fulfilled. The teacher will have to write clear guideliness so that students can successfully reach the learning goal. From the developer:  "Educators can set bits that that they want students to do, e.g. butress their own claims by writing claims underneath their own claims, using sources, or writing claims underneath others' claims."

• The instructor will need to facilitate practice/training for students, as with any new technology or application, especially if the advanced features are utilized.
• The instructor will need to clarify expectations for use and keep initial tasks simple. For example, multi-thesis discussions can quickly become complicated for students. Therefore, single-thesis discussions are recommended for starters.

• Learning goals are easy to identify.
• The platform integrates well with diverse teaching styles and a variety of learning outcomes (i.e., level).
• The platform can be used with diverse audiences and may promote deep and active learning (e.g., groupwork, debate, case studies, reflections).

After the students debate, discuss, or review information, they are expected to view a topic from a more objective and analytical perspective. The website can be used after the students have been exposed to analyzing situations and socializing with each other. Teachers will reach a deeper level of analysis and understanding of the content they bring to the class. They can use the discussion platform with an array of topics. 

Teachers who select to work in Kialo Edu can assign different activities which can be either assessed or just serve a follow up purpose. 

• Care should be taken to identify the appropriate discussion questions/prompts or  classroom debates.

Teachers are encouraged to watch the video tutorials available in the website . It is paramount that they do so since they need to figure out the different ways they can use the tool. After watching the video, teachers will have enough ideas on what they can design for the students to interact. The website is easy to navigate for students. They just see the directions and proceed to either agree or disagree with a statement given by the teacher. 

• Information regarding student data protection agreements is on multiple pages and takes additional time to locate and process.  From the Developer:  "We just finished our new privacy policy which was very hard to write, given that we had to write a text that complies with privacy legislation in multiple countries.  It will go live with the next deployment in early January 2022.
