Evaluation and Observation

Content Quality

Rating: 5 stars
Strengths:

Quality of Content Ratings: (4.70) (4.60) = 4.65

  • Clearly laid out

  • Accurate

  • Good use of animations and graphics

  • The addition of student activities that extend beyond the problem sets make this site of particular interest.
Concerns:

  • More information about the intended interpretation of the antibody-antigen and Western blotting animations should be provided. It may not be clear to students what they are intended to take away from these animations.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

Rating: 5 stars
Strengths:

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching-Learning Tool Ratings: (4.80) (4.75) = 4.8

  • Promotes critical thinking and attention to detail

  • Tutorial questions are graded immediately with feedback for correct and incorrect answers

  • -Each unit has numerous problems to be answered which should give students sufficient opportunity to test their knowledge

  • Excellent open-ended discussion and critical thinking questions that could be assigned to students.

  • Good source of discussion questions that relate the application of technology to society. Questions well thought out.

  • Good links to other web sites providing related information and simulations.
Concerns:

  • An animation of the steps involved in Western blotting would be helpful. Students are only asked to view the final results of a Western blot and may not understand how the results were generated.

Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty

Rating: 5 stars
Strengths:

Ease of Use Ratings: (4.80) (4.75) = 4.8

  • Clear and accurate instructions

  • Intuitive design

  • No defective links

  • Rapid grading of tutorial questions

  • Interactive activities are readily responsive
Concerns:

  • Animations in the section "Antibody Structure" do not always play.
