Content Quality: 3 stars
Effectiveness: 3 stars
Ease of Use: 4 stars
Reviewed: Oct 02, 2002 by Information Technology Editorial Board
Overview: This module is a crossword puzzle that makes use of networking terms. The
students must recognize the definitions and then apply the term to fill in the
puzzle.
Learning Goals: The learning goal is to answer specific questions related to network concepts
Target Student Population: The target population would be students in an introductory or intermediate
networking course.
Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills: The students would need to have some network background to answer these
questions. The hard thing would be to try to put this into a course without
knowing how far into the class the students need to be to answer the questions.
This might be a good thing to use as a review from a beginning class before
going into an advanced class.
Type of Material: This is a drill and practice exercise.
Recommended Uses:
Technical Requirements: A browser is all that is needed by the students.

Evaluation and Observation

Content Quality

Rating: 3 stars
Strengths: Good review exercise for Networking students, gives them an interesting way to
study the definitions, rather than just memorizing. Interactive puzzle Good
review exercise for Networking students, gives them an interesting way to study
the definitions, rather than just memorizing. Interactive puzzle reinforces
basic and advanced network terminology.
Concerns: Is tied to a specific book and this may limit users not having access to that
text. Perhaps eliminating the ?page numbers? would give me more confidence that
it is useful for those students who do not use the particular book that was
listed.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

Rating: 3 stars
Strengths: The questions are sufficiently complex that the students need to know the
material well to answer the questions.
Concerns:

Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty

Rating: 4 stars
Strengths: A good random choice of questions for the maze.
Concerns: The user is not given instructions about how to type in the answers to the
questions. A box shows at the bottom where the answers will be shown, but that
is not explained.
