Overview: The module is devoted to selling a specific expense traffic software tool.
Also on this site are examples of reports and spreadsheets the software can
produce, along with a slide show highlighting the benefits of the product.
The product is designed for increased efficiency in the workplace and provides
solutions for employees for time tracking, paid time off tracking, project
tracking, expense tracking, project tracking, skill tracking, item tracking and
other administrative functions. From an employee reporting an expense to the
supervisor’s approval to the accounting department, all functions are online,
accelerating the process and saving time.
Learning Goals: The site itself does not have a learning goal but students an learn how
organizations function behind the scenes. For the instructor, this information
could be used to show students what expense tracking software looks like, and
what it can do.
Target Student Population: The college student population, upper division business, would be the best
target group for this information. Perhaps a second course in sales such as
Introductory Sales Management would be well suited for this learning experience.
Other user groups might include accounting students or M.B.A. students with
limited business experience.
Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills: A knowledge of sales expenses incurred would be helpful.
Type of Material: The material is a company website that depicts software program for tracking
employee records. There are several different aspects of the site that address
time tracking, paid time off (PTO) tracking, project tracking, expense tracking,
skills tracking, item tracking, and administrative functions.
Recommended Uses: The most effective use of this material would be as an example within a class
lecture. It could also be used as the basis for a homework assignment.
Technical Requirements: None.

Evaluation and Observation

Content Quality

Rating: 3.7 stars
Strengths: Provides real-life information about what companies might use to track sales
expenses.
Concerns: The content is developed primarily to sell a product, not to deliver a student
lesson.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

Rating: 3.8 stars
Strengths: The module is very easy to understand and provides an excellent brief glimpse
into the world of corporate paperwork. While easy enough to learn “on the job,”
an introduction to this type of reporting would be a good learning experience
in illustrating expense tracking to students.
Concerns: No significant problems are present for student learning other than some
information which is hard to see on a few of the pages due to text overlap. The
content is not very inteactive and there are some misspelled words, for example
– “insite” instead of “insight” which can easily be corrected.

Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty

Rating: 4.3 stars
Strengths: The module is easy to use and the information is very clear.
Concerns: The module just needs minor “cleaning up” for text and spelling errors.

Other Issues and Comments: As an example of expense tracking software, this material is fine for in-class
use. It does not provide much information beyond the examples. There is some
problem with the text on a few of the modules where an overlap of words occurs.
On the “TrackStar General Information” page, changes might need to be made.
Also, the Skills Tracking section could be considered invasive and most
employees may resent this information being online. Supervisors would
probably be reluctant to be candid since the information would be so accessible.
