Evaluation and Observation
Outreach World is a repository of useful information with a precollegiate focus that can only become better and better with its large network of contributors and its access to national resource centers. Classroom teachers will appreciate the lesson plans that focus on target cultures, the active learning opportunities for students and teachers, and the updated calendar of professional opportunities. Although the primary emphasis is on young learners, college-level educators can make use of many of the materials in Outreach World. For example, a lesson plan on the film Guantanamera, which deals with post-revolution Cuba, asks students to write essays on the concept of revolution. This task could easily be done by college Spanish classes or ESL students. The lesson plan on the Taino influence on Spanish vocabuary is listed as appropriate for Elementary Spanish and for students at the college level. Sorting the materials by Foreign Languages, the items come up alphabetically and one can choose from a cinema exercise in French from Benin, a lesson on naming conventions in Arabic, a curriculum unit on Chinese calligraphy and many more resources.
