This web site has many articles on advertising including an archive of award-winning slogans. Information on the company and the author of each article is provided. In addition, specific writing guidelines are available regarding what makes a successful slogan and ad script.
This site would offer instructors many opportunities to incorporate real examples in advertising, marketing, promotion, etc. into their courses. Copy-writing and advertising/slogan strategies can be demonstrated with statistics, samples, and in-depth descriptions.
Target Student Population:
The target population consists of students of marketing, advertising, integrated marketing communications, and promotion.
Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills:
Students should have a basic conceptual understanding of communication and promotional strategy.
Type of Material:
Website with links for discussion/content.
This website could be added to an instructor's resource page of interesting websites. It could also be used as the basis for in-class discussion of advertising examples, outside homework and research assignments, and sample problems.
Evaluation and Observation
The module includes interesting examples, content, and documentation of advertising slogans and business situations.
The frame format of the web site results in a rather "busy" screen as it is very full of text.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
The site contains lots of good examples. The international ads and campaigns are well incorporated. The archive collection contains past years, ratings, etc. It would be a good resource to show students or add to a list of interesting advertising links.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Very professionally designed site with online video clips also available.
The screen is a little "busy" with the left-hand frame taking up a large portion of the screen. The 2-column format of the articles is often pretty crowded. The column separation is not always visually clear and concise.
