Overview: This learning object, Step-By-Step Guide to Planning Facilities is for use by institutions of higher learning to assist them in planning for a new or renovated space for undergraduate programs in both mathematics and the sciences.
Learning Goals: The goal of this site is to provide information to institutions of higher education with the planning for new science equipment and construction of appropriate classroom space for the sciences and mathematics classrooms and laboratories.
Target Student Population: Students in architecture and in degree programs for educational leadership.

Type of Material: Resource materials
Recommended Uses: The material may be useful for those institutions that are in the planning stages of a new classroom facility which will house science laboratories, classroom space and storage of teaching and learning materials and equipment. The reviewers also see this as a site that would be appropriate for students studying architecture.

Strengths: Content based on research and is of good quality. It presents an easy to follow process for administrators to consider and go through when planning and building new math/science buildings. The material gives details and information that is helpful when planning and designing a new educational facility. Architectural examples and processes are described through the steps.
Concerns: Narrow focus, and without much knowledge of building function architecture, it would may not be very meaningful.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

Strengths: This could be an effective teaching tool for faculty teaching students that are studying building sciences.
Concerns: Narrow focus of the site is of concern.

Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty

Strengths: The navigation of the main pages are well organized and easy to use.
Concerns: Difficulty with some links especially the PKAL Volume III Structures for Science pages connecting with the next page nor was a navigation table present.
