Evaluation and Observation

Content Quality

Rating: 2 stars
Strengths: This material includes good pictures and pin explanations of the serial, parallel and USB ports. It also contains clear screenshots of the control panel procedure.
Concerns: There is no table of contents to find the information. The reader has to click around various links that may or may not go to a different page of explanations. Some links go to commercial interests. The explanations use dated operating systems such as Windows 95, NT and ME with some reference to XP. Some links are broken in the sections for other operating systems.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

Rating: 2 stars
Strengths: The pictures of the ports are very well done. In the left margin are links to other network and operating system related topics that are more current.
Concerns: This just a demonstration for just-in-time information. It is not organized for use as a complete class module. There are no quizzes and limited links to terminology.

Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty

Rating: 3 stars
Strengths: There are no plug-ins required and the links are clearly described.
Concerns: The amount of pictures could result in a slow load at a 56K connection.
