Overview: The Linguist List, which is hosted at Eastern Michigan University and at Wayne State University, is an interactive website run by linguistics professors and graduate students. The site provides searches for everything from anthropological linguistics to writing systems. Its publications area links to thousands of book, dissertation, review, academic journal and publisher entries. Its language resources area provides links to 250 dictionaries in different languages, acronym dictionaries, thesauri, and dictionaries of special terms. It has an extensive text and computer tools area, as well as an extensive teaching and learning area, including links to hundreds of EFL and foreign language learning sites. Its also provides an “ask the linguist” capability, and a recipe book with recipes from linguists all over the world!

Strengths: The variety and quality of the web references are excellent. It is easy to find one’s way around this site. It is efficient. No matter what question you are pursuing, you can rapidly find resources which will be useful to your purpose.

Strengths: This is a reference site. Teachers will need to provide students with specific teacher-directed tasks within the site that connect to the aims of their unit of instruction. The value of the site is the richness of information accessible from a single location.
