Evaluation and Observation

Content Quality

Rating: 4 stars
Strengths: 1. The set of study cards covers the entire core content of the intended topics and is current, complete, valid and accurate.

2. It is consistent throughout the material.

3. It provides a ready set of core topics, concepts, formulas, and logical relationships between various concepts.

4. It is a very useful idea to have the major conceptual framework condensed to notecard and memorizable sets.
Concerns: 1. The material needs to be checked for detailed accuracy. For example, the 'real gas law' is given, when in fact the law referred to is in fact the VanderWaals equation of state, one of many different and useful equations of state.

2. There are VERY few worked examples. Simple worked examples would enormously enhance the utility of the material.

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool

Rating: 3.5 stars
Strengths: 1.This material can facilitate learning by providing a very concise and comprehensive set of textual learning tools. It has been organized into well-designed individual topics.

2. May be used by instructors for classroom summary or review after the topics have already been taught.

3. Students like to memorize information. This set of notecards gives the students a reasonable set of information that they can memorize. That information will in turn be a useful foundation for more elaborate in-class discussion and worked examples.
Concerns: 1.Does not take advantage of any interactive capability of online learning modules.

2. Does not engage multiple senses of the learner through audio, video, images, etc.

Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty

Rating: 5 stars
Strengths: 1. The information has been presented in a very easy to follow and logical way.

2. Navigation is easy and does not trap the user since use of the browser "back" button returns the user to the main list of topics.

3. Print and use directions with link for downloading of "Adobe Acrobat" Reader has been provided.

4. The material loads quickly and easily into a pdf reader and needs only to be printed onto a suitable medium for the student to begin taking advantage of the material.
Concerns: None

Other Issues and Comments: Well-developed and organized set of study cards for high school students taking AP Chemistry and for college students in General Chemistry.
