| Overview: |
This site is to consolidate access to Baruch College's digital library. Faculty and staff may contribute to this collection and, apparently, anyone may access it. The collection is organized into department or school themes within the various schools: arts and sciences, business, publich affairs, the main library and the Baruch community. The digital material consists of videos of events, lectures, media, and tutorials. The length varies. |
| Learning Goals: |
The learning goals will vary with the application orientation and subject matters. In most cases, it appears that the materials are supplemental to course texts and other materials. |
| Target Student Population: |
This is appropriate for advanced high school students, undergraduate and graduate students. |
| Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills: |
The subject matter is wide ranging and is applicable to many areas of university studies. Computer skills levels should be moderate or better. Software is ncessary to play the videos. |
| Type of Material: |
Reference materials. |
| Recommended Uses: |
This tool would be useful for an indidivual, team, or to supplement a lecture. These materials may be used for in-class presentatins, homework for individuals or teams, or for online course lectures. |
| Technical Requirements: |
This will require the user to download Quicktime. |
|
|
|
| Strengths: |
This tutorial is very well organized by category to include: Arts/Sciences, Baruch Community, Business, Centers and Institutes, Newman Library, and Public Affairs and Government. This is an innovative tool that really integrates the Baruch Community and provides a great example of knowledge management. There are also interactive media available and the site is visually appealing to the user. The website is stand-alone and may be used by faculty, trainers, or students. |
| Concerns: |
The site is very well organized and designed, that there are no significant concerns. |

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool |
Rating: |
|
| Strengths: |
The site is very effective in that it provides on-demand media of difficult subjects such as calculus and algebra. If the student was absent from class or needed reinforcement, the video is helpful. This would be also be effective in courses that require students to have a multidisciplinary grasp on several subjects - in a sense, this is virtual team-teaching.
The use of the materials, on their own, is not necessarily evident. However, as part of course or workshop assignments, the materials are very useful and will reinforce course objectives. The site is efficiently laid out and easy to use. There are tutorials for those who find them necessary. |
| Concerns: |
One issue would be whether there is an evaluation process in place to review new materials that are posted. |

Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty |
Rating: |
|
| Strengths: |
This tutorial was easy to navigate, visually appealing and the topics were well-organized. |
| Concerns: |
The only concern is that some students may have difficulty downloading Quicktime or it may not be available on some public-use computers such as library or dorm computers. |
|
|
| Other Issues and Comments: |
Excellent resource that many professors can use. |
