Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
A logical sequence of audio-visual exercises in rhythm, melody, harmony, pitch, and key signatures. The drills are properly sequenced from simple to complex. Immediate feedback is provided as the user works through the various drills and progress continues even if an incorrect answer is given. The correct answer is provided and the user continues through the drill. Drills are under continuous review and updates are made as needed.
Concerns:
Many concepts are not explained in the tutorials at all. So many of the skills developed by the exercises are not explained. Some links to java applets are broken.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
There are many drills which are appropriate for a wide range of users.
Concerns:
Instructions are not always clear.
Interval exercises ask only either for the interval name or the quality but not both.
Some exercises are not dynamically generated, they seem to be read from a library. The problem is that there are not many exercises of each type, so the student gets to know the exercises too soon.
The exercises are mostly of a very basic level. Probably too basic for many students.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
The site provides for user login in order to maintain a profile of study. The visual and audio quality are good and the exercises are organized for easy access and use. Overall the site is very user friendly.
Concerns:
Although easy to navigate, you may be somewhat confused because tutorials and exercises are mixed.
