Content Quality
Rating:
Strengths:
These lessons are carefully planned and executed, with an enthusiastic instructor. Blues form - visually takes you along with the music...
The Flash design is strong, and using video with animated lead sheets is very helpful (e.g. the ch 10 download demo, and the controllable features like zoom, pause etc). The chord and scale dictionary is very visual and helpful.
Concerns:
The submitted material is a complete marketing tool, making frequent references to other commercially available courses, and chapters - and ultimately needed to buy to go further.
Emphasis is on playing by ear as opposed to reading notes which may be a concern in some learning environments.
How about some suggested listening examples outside of the online lessons?
Give the student the ability to slow down some of the passages.
Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool
Rating:
Strengths:
This approach is very effective for people who would like to learn quickly and by ear(videos go step by step, taking a look at each hand in a very systematic way)....but it is by no means complete. Overall this is just a taste of what lies underneath...a teaser to get people to buy the lessons.
Concerns:
These are not full fledged lessons...but pointers towards more detailed lessons which must be purchased.
Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty
Rating:
Strengths:
Extremely easy to use. Everything is self explanatory and broken down into chapters.
There is no comment in terms of effective lesson plan, but the material is engaging and delivered well.
Concerns:
None. See Step 6
Other Issues and Comments:
I like this approach, and I like the planning and delivery and 'style' of the instructor.
