| Overview: |
This site offers an extensive collection of high quality still photos, diagrams, and video (fluoro/endo) of the laryngeal and tracheal structures, including anatomy and physiology. |
| Learning Goals: |
The material on this website would facilitate student learning outcomes, such as:(1) increased recall of anatomy and physiology of the laryngeal mechanism; (2) ability to recognize anatomy and physiology in real-life representations (including still photos, endoscopy, and cadaver picture); (3) increased understanding of functions of laryngeal mechanism (i.e. voice production, swallowing); and (4) improved recognition/identification of normal vs. disorders laryngeal conditions |
| Target Student Population: |
The stated target population is medical students in ENT. Additional targets include undergraduate and graduate students in the field of speech-language pathology. |
| Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills: |
Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology for some materials. Need higher level of knowledge (i.e. basic swallowing function) for some materials. |
| Type of Material: |
Collection from a wide variety of sources, of laryngeal anatomy/physiology diagrams, images, and videos (fluoro/endo). |
| Recommended Uses: |
This material would be excellent supplemental and/or instructional material to anyone teaching anatomy/physiology, voice disorders, dysphagia. It would be useful as part of a class presentation or for students to review independently. |
| Technical Requirements: |
Viewed using Firefox 3.6.12 and Windows 7 |

|
| Strengths: |
Primary value of this website is that the author has put together an extensive collection, from resources around the world, of visual representations of the laryngeal mechanism, function, and a few disorders. For students who benefit from multiple views or representations, including direct visualization through photos/endoscopy, this is an outstanding collection. Actual photos from surgical procedure associated with tracheostomy. Rare for SLP students to see this. Also great photo collection of trach-supplies (different types of tubes, etc.) |
| Concerns: |
Many of the items in the collection have no reference or resource associated with them. None of them have any wording in terms of explanations of what you are seeing, other than labels on diagrams. Needs to be some basic understanding prior to using independently. |

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool |
Rating: |
|
| Strengths: |
This material would be very useful in helping students learn laryngeal anatomy/physiology and some aspects of laryngeal disorders as well. It is very well organized. |
| Concerns: |
Primary concern regarding using materials beyond the classroom is the lack of explanations accompanying images/representations. The material would need to be used as a supplemental resource. |
