| Overview: |
The site is designed as a collection of ESL related resources. There are numerous links to other sites that will serve as resources for instructors who teach ESL. There are quizzes available on the site as well. |
| Learning Goals: |
As listed on the site there is a collection of "vocabulary lists, grammar help, ESL quizzes, spelling tests, reading help tools, and many other resources useful in learning English as a second Language." |
| Target Student Population: |
College, high school, and adult learners who are interested in practicing English skills |
| Prerequisite Knowledge or Skills: |
Read and write in English, navigate a website |
| Type of Material: |
Website, quizzes, links to other resources |
| Recommended Uses: |
This site is likely designed as a teacher resource center. A teacher, professor, tutor who is fluent in English will find this site easy to use. |
| Technical Requirements: |
Internet access, browser |
|
|
|
| Strengths: |
A collection of resources to promote: vocabulary development, grammar help, self quizzes, spelling tests, reading help tools, and links to other relevant resources. The site is well organized and the links are active. This site would be helpful for a tutor, teacher, or professor who is helping to teach ESL learners. |
| Concerns: |
The site is not designed for a person who does not have a good command of the English language. The quizzes work, but do not reinforce the content learned. This site should be available for teachers and tutors and less for English learners. |

Potential Effectiveness as a Teaching Tool |
Rating: |
|
| Strengths: |
The learning objectives are met. There is a good collection of resources to help promote English language development. The students should be able to improve their writing and reading skills. The material presented could be used by an advanced reader and ELD learner. The material presented could be a good resource for faculty to teach ELD students and help provide key vocabulary lists. |
| Concerns: |
The material is all text based. The use of multimedia resources including podcasts, videos, audio recordings, and cues would be helpful if an ESL student wanted to navigate the site without assistance. |

Ease of Use for Both Students and Faculty |
Rating: |
|
| Strengths: |
The site is well organized and easy to navigate. The links work and are active. |
| Concerns: |
The site was created using a free software of some sort. There are banners and ads that distract from the website. The blinking and flashing banners make it difficult to read the text provided on the website. This would be especially difficult for an ESL student. |
|
|
| Other Issues and Comments: |
Removing the banners and the website ads would be helpful. The inclusion of multimedia resources to reinforce the material presented would also be beneficial. This site should be geared towards faculty- to help support instruction. |
| Comments from Author: |
Just wanted to mention that the site, even though originally created as ESL resource, is intended now(hopefully) also as a reference for native English learners.
No special software is used. I created site in asp.net
Only google ads are displayed(so no intrusive pop-ups,redirects,etc), sometimes they are flashy but context related and could be found useful by users. And ads pay the fee to maintain the site.
Again - thank you for the review. I am still working on it and it will have more material soon. |
