Learning Outcomes

  1. Recognize and evaluate various aspects of basic chemistry and biochemistry, including atoms, subatomic particles, atomic number, atomic weight, mass number, molecules, macromolecules, and directions and rates of biochemical processes at they apply to the structure and functioning of the cell.
  2. Recognize and critique the functional organizational of the cell, including cellular anatomy, cellular interactions and transport processes and bioenergetics.
  3. Analyze and differentiate the dynamics of cellular metabolic processes, including cellular respiration and photosynthesis.
  4. Discuss and evaluate topics related to cellular growth and replication, including Structure, replication and repair of DNA, cellular reproduction from mitosis to meiosis, and inheritance mechanisms in cells involving both genes and chromosomes.
  5. Discuss and apply topics related to biotechnology, including gene expression, genetic manipulation and recombinant DNA.
