Description:

The National Cirriculum requires teachers to give pupils opportunities to recognise the importance of sustainability, in scientific and technological developments. The purpose of this is to expand their understanding of how human activity and natural processes have the potential to impact the  environment.

Sustainability is an important topic for young people because it involves an appreciation that meeting the needs of the present generation has to be achieved without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.  Related topics include environmental pollution, energy conservation and renewable energy resources.

This is a collection of four lesson plans and related resources that draw on a range of materials on the web and through powerpoint. They are designed to support the National Cirriculum by helping teachers offer pupils meaningful cirriculum opportunities on these topics. Such cirriculum opportunities give pupils the chance to enhance their engagement with the concepts, processes and content of the subject.
