Description:
"Out of the Past: Investigating Film Noir" is a serialized academic text that studies and analyzes the great films of the film noir canon. While most of the films are from noir’s classic period (1941-1957), the series also analyzes more contemporary neo-noir films. This podcast series can be used as course material to supplement film history textbooks, to help students develop their skills in film analysis, and as a compendium to class screenings. Co-hosted by two Saint Mary’s of California professors, Shannon Clute (Dept of Modern Languages) and Richard Edwards (Dept of Communication) every episode of this podcast series investigates a single film in relation to the body of film noir, emphasizing film history, film theory and film analysis. Moreover, the literary origins of film noir are central to this audio series, and frequently the films are analyzed in relation to their literary source material. The show is currently available at the "Out of the Past" website, as well as most major podcasting sites, such as iTunes and Yahoo Podcasts.
