Taste Test: Can Microbes Tell the Difference?
Learners observe a demonstration of the metabolism of yeast--after being placed in a sealed bag with water and sugar, the yeast consumes the sugar and produces carbon dioxide gas to inflate the bag. Learners then design their own experiments to see how altering the food source (using sugar or an artificial sweetener) alters the amount of carbon dioxide gas produced.
