Library of Congress: Maps in Our Lives

This online exhibit features a selection of various types of maps from the collections of the Library of Congress and the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM). Map types include survey maps such as the historic maps of George Washington's farms, a hydrographic survey, Geographic Information System (GIS) map, and a selection of examples of thematic maps, reference maps, recreation and travel maps, and others. Some maps are available for downloading. There are also brief discussions about Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geodesy, and a link to a brief (2 min.) movie about the uses of maps.
