Description:
Starting Points 3 emphasizes that, in a single classroom or child care setting, there are always children at many different stages of language development who need a variety of supports. This course teaches how to boost language and literacy skills for all children, including English Language Learners. Video scenes vividly show how children acquire both their first and second languages and what to expect at each stage of language acquisition. Exercises guide learners to observe and analyze teaching practices that help children develop language comprehension. Strategies taught include how to help children build vocabulary in context and how to use multi-sensory experiences that integrate understanding and learning.

Video demonstrations are a key component of this course. These video segments were captured documentary style in a variety of classrooms and care settings. A sample video clip begins a teaching segment on second language acquisition. Other segments show examples of the strategies presented in the coursework, so that you can see how they are implemented by highly skilled teachers and how children react and respond.

Course is avilable for lease and digital rights for the video is avaiable
