The UVA Virtual Lab is a collection of more than fifty presentations on microelectronics, nanotechnology, and the science underlying these fields. In lieu of math and jargon, the site employs intuitive 3D virtual reality animations. These reveal invisible fields and forces, and take viewers from human to atomic scales. Presentations range from high school electricity and magnetism experiments, to basic electrical circuits, to explanations of scientific instruments (including SEMs, scanning and tunneling microscopes), to how semiconductors and transistors work, to how integrated circuits are processed and manufactured, to what might eventually replace these technologies. This NSF funded website targets high school and college students, as well as curious members of the general public.
