This learning resource is a demonstration lesson from a course on Pharmacology. It is entitled Pharmacology Basics and based on the textbook, Hitner, Henry and Barbara Nagle, Pharmacology, An Introduction, 5th Edition, McGraw-Hill, 2005. It would be especially useful to students who are using that particular textbook.
This course introduces pharmacology as the study of drugs. The course begins with an explanation of therapeutic and adverse effects, as well as, the basic operation of the nervous system. Several body systems and the conditions that affect them are also reviewed, with particular reference to the use of drugs to treat these conditions. Topics include muscle relaxants, anesthetics, pain medication, and nervous system and psychological disorders. As students work through this course, their appreciation of how drugs affect the body in intended and unintended ways will increase.
This is a fully functional demonstration of one topic from the complete McGraw-Hill course.
