Dr. O'Neal is the director of undergraduate biology labs at Stony Brook and manages an enrollment of 1200 students each semester. He discusses how the SafeAssign plagiarism detection software built into BlackBoard is used to ensure that student's submit their own work for lab assignments. He provides student with instruction on academic integrity and discusses how multinational students may think differently about the ethics of plagiarism. He outlines the process followed when a potential violation of the academic integrity policy is encountered. From a management standpoint Marvin feels the software has simplified the delivery of the course and brings out the best in the students. Marvin is joined by Andrea Doherty, a BlackBoard support specialist within TLT, who discusses some of the technical aspects of using plagiarism detection software and the support provided to faculty who may want to implement it.
