Description:
2007 Summer session "Sustainability"
One hundred years have just passed since we seriously thought about "sustainability" of human society / human culture. United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (UNCHE) was held in 1972. UNCHE discussed environmental pollution and confirmed the importance of "only one earth. At the same year, "The Limits to Growth " was published. It denied the possibility of infinite development, after "Sustainable development" appeared as big social issues. As a result, Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) was held in 1992.
On the other hand, there is people who are left from development in earth. They are not only suffer from poverty, but also exposed their life and dignity to danger. Human Security was proposed in order to pursue individual development. It linked development to peace, and recognized sustainable peace as one of the biggest social issues.
"Responsibility of protection" also appeared after Human Security.
Nowadays, the problem of "Sustainability" is emerged as the problem of peace/development/human right for each person. This course focuses on the relationships between new society and academic.
