The electronic monitoring policy that I found for this assignment comes from a school district in Connecticut. What makes this even more interesting is that a school district is either subject to state law, or by laws established by the district. Either way, governmental agencies are always monitored very closely by the public and watchdog groups.
Due to the fact that this is a public sector policy, it is both strict and heavily enforced. Furthermore, there have been several cases in which public school teachers have had charges pressed against them related to child pornography in the work place. As the policy states, the employees are subject to a routine “general search” frequently. However, if there are any reasonable grounds a specific search may be done of email, documents, Internet history, and ALL components of the computer. As the policy states, this is only for the protection of the students, employee, and the school district. I believe that this policy is very strict, but with good reason. All too often educators of young children are exposed in all sorts of inappropriate activities and I believe the internet to be a large instigator of such activities.
